Was this the right choice?

Getting up at 2:30am for my flight to Guatemala was hard enough, so why did I choose carrot juice over McD’s pancakes? Because I am crazy. I was going to say something about being health conscious and loving carrot juice and all that jazz, but as I sit here on the plane, waiting to take off, all I am thinking about is how I should have picked the pancakes. The good news is that I am heading to a country that has – in my opinion – the best pancakes in the world! When I returned from my extended stay back in ’09, I returned with bags of coffee for my family and bags of pancake mix for myself. I certainly confused customs officials with my odd assortment of goodies and was pulled into extra extra security searches before being allowed to go home. With that said, let me know if you want coffee or pancake mix and I’ll gladly go thru extra extra security again!

I know I have said this already, but I am so excited to be going back to Guatemala! It feels a wee bit like home-away-from-home for me. I feel much more comfortable in Guatemala then in the other countries I have volunteered in over the years. I can’t wait to see my old project site, visit the families and check on the pilas, latrines, showers, tank and pipes! I will be sure to post photos as soon as I can!

Good luck, and I’d LOVE some coffee if you can – but most importantly bring yourself back safely.

  2. Praying for your safe travel in these storms. I know what you mean about Guat seeming like a home away from home. I think it is fir us because it was our first mission trip destination and we have been there 10 times in 10 years. Can’t wait to meet up with you Saturday! Enjoy your visits and pancakes! Leave some for us!
