Hard work and long nights paid off!
We presented to a group tonight that consisted of Grace staff, village leaders and a representative from the Mayor’s office. After we presented the master plan, the Mayor’s representative stood up and commended us for putting together a residential site where Haitians would be comfortable. He said that quite a few Aid agencies have provided housing in Carrfour but none of them worked so hard to make it culturally appropriate. We essentially performed a 3-5 month long project in one week. Below is a photo of our work area.
We all spent way too much time in here! Electricity was shifty so some nights we were designing by headlamp.
I am so grateful to be part of such a cool project with amazing teammates. God truly blessed us with the strength to persevere on little sleep and the wisdom to produce an appropriate design for the community.
I am sad to be leaving my new friends tomorrow but excited to get started on my second project!
How about the sexy toilets? Will they be a reality?
“Electricity was shifty…” Stay in the nuclear power industry and perhaps you can be a Project Manager for building SMRs in Haiti.
