I am waiting at my gate in the Newark Airport. My drilling equipment made it through TSA and none of my carry-on items were removed so the first two wee worrisome steps are over. Next challenge will be getting my equipment through customs in Uganda- sometimes customs gives me a hard time so I don’t breath a sigh of relief until I am out of the airport in my final destination.
My family came into the airport to see me off today which was really nice. Below, Helene was giving me a hand getting around.
So, these will be my final words for awhile. I want to end with a song that is based off of 1 Corinthians 13:1-3. Those three verses have been on my heart recently because it is so important for me to remember – especially out in the field- that actions without love are worthless. I want the people I work with to see Christ’s love in every aspect of what I do. It is easy to go in and focus on just getting the job done but relationship building with the community is just as important as drilling. My prayer is that my task never takes priority over loving those I am working beside, eating with and interacting with daily.
If I sing but don’t have love
I waste my breath with every song
I bring an empty voice, a hollow noise
If I speak with a silver tongue
Convince a crowd but don’t have love
I leave a bitter taste with every word I say
So let my life be the proof,
The proof of Your love
Let my love look like You and what You’re made of
How You lived, how You died
Love is sacrifice
So let my life be the proof,
The proof of Your love
If I give
To a needy soul but don’t have love then who is poor?
It seems all the poverty is found in me
So let my life be the proof,
The proof of Your love
Let my love look like You and what You’re made of
How You lived, how You died
Love is sacrifice
Oh, let my life be the proof,
The proof of Your love
When it’s all said and done
When we sing our final song
Only love remains
Only love remains
(“Proof of Your Love” by For King & Country)
Wishing you the best of luck with this project! I’ll keep my fingers crossed that Ugandan customs goes well!
Caitlin, you and Helene look adorable! So happy that your family went with you to the airport. Will be praying for you and your fellow travelers. Lots of Luck and Love, Tricia
