The guys we worked with were great! Our days were long (10-12 hours) and the work was extremely difficult but they kept it fun and joyful
This is a typical house in Ferrier – the village where our project was located
Our transportation was pretty fun – we bounced around in the bed of a large truck – sometimes jumping up and down on purpose, sometimes just being thrown up and down by the terrain 🙂
I’m learning how to give stitches in my medical training class at Equip. Who is willing to let me practice stitching on a REAL arm? 😉
I am taking a 2-week medical intensive course designed for village care. Today, I am learning to give injections – yikes!
All done! Here is the well I worked on with local villagers in the village of Manzalpur, within Chitwan in Nepal.
We needed to make gaskets for the rope pump so we used a 1/2 inch pipe (with sharped edges) to punch out small rubber “gaskets.” It was tedious (and painful) work but we took turns and cut out over 100 gaskets for the pump.
My teammates and I arrived in South Sudan the day after a week-long vote for separation from the North. It was really cool be together with the villagers as they listened to a radio broadcasting the preliminary results – 99% for separation!
